The interior of the yacht was laid out as to suit the Atlantic Ocean cruising itineraries when most of the distance sailed would be on starboard tack. Eg. the “Columbus” route from Europe to Caribbean, with NE winds going W and SW winds going E.
Interior lay-out:
- Galley is to port, making it easier to cook at sea when heeling
- Aft head is to starboard, perpendicular to ships axis for easy sitting
- Dining area to port, doubles as seaberth for extra person on watch
- Owners berth to port
- Navigation area to starboard, looking aft for easy communication with helmsman
- Portside cabin has two berths above one another
- Double berth in starboard cabin
Hull, rudder and keel:
It was decided to adapt a similar design as found in the modern Admiral’s Cup racers.
- the hull is adapted to the latest insights in hydrodynamics with a relatively flat bottom
- the rudder is an elliptical balanced rudder
- to limit the draft to 8′, the fin keel has a small bulb and tail-end
- the steering mechanism is similar to the one used on the Whitbread Racer “Equity and Law”
- Ventilation and insulation:
Ship’s ventilation had to meet tropical aswell as colder North European conditions
- 8 dorade scoops for ventilation, each with a stainless steel protection bracket
- 4 large Goyot hatches that can be opened both on forward side or aft side
- blue canvas suncovers are available for all Goyot hatches
- 6 hull and 10 superstructure portholes that can be opened for ventilation
- in all sleeping cabins – silent – 24V Hella fans provide cooling air flow
- in galley/saloon area 4 Hella fans are installed
- galley stove has a cooker hood with suction fan covering the stove area
- sun and rain covers for aft head portholes and galley portholes (can remain opened)
- high and freestanding shadetree suncover in two parts to cover the deck and bowsection
- heavy duty canvas sun/rain cover in three parts to cover the cockpit, deck and bowsection
- the hull above waterline is on the inside completely treated with foam for insulation
- the webasto 3800 kcal ships heater, with 7 hot air outlets, can heat all cabins
